Kitty WhatelyWinner - Kitty Whately

Mezzo soprano Kitty Whately, the winner of the 2011 Ferrier competition, is currently studying at the Royal College of Music International Opera School with Tim Evans-Jones, supported by an Aldama Scholarship. She was educated at Chetham's School in Manchester before going on to study with Jane Highfield and Robert Dean at the GSMD.

Kitty's roles whilst at the RCM have included Eduige in Handel's Rodelinda and she will sing Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tutte for them in June this year.  She is a Samling scholar and was the winner of the 2011 Royal Over-Seas League singers section, the RCM Lieder Prize and Schumann Competition, as well as a finalist in the 2010 Les Azuriales Interntional Singing Competition.  Last season Kitty sang the role of Edith in Thomas Arne's Alfred for the Classical Opera Company, and covered Idamante in Idomeneo for Buxton Festival Opera. She was also a member of the Glyndebourne chorus for two seasons.

Future plans include the roles of Kate in Britten's Owen Wingrave at Nuremberg International Chamber Music Festival and Teodata in Handel's Flavio for English Touring Opera.   In May this year she is singing in a performance of Elgar's Dream of Gerontius at the Sage in Gateshead and in the Samling scholar's showcase concert (www.samling.org.uk )at the Wigmore Hall with Sir Thomas Allen and previous Kathleen Ferrier award winner, Njabulo Madlala.
